Flagship site renamed “Cheryl’s House” and memorial fund established to help families transition from homelessness

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (December 18, 2025) – Family Promise of Greater Phoenix, a leading nonprofit organization innovating solutions for family homelessness, dedicated “Cheryl’s House” and established The Cheryl Chewning Memorial Fund during an emotional ceremony at its renamed Belleview site. The memorial fund will support two families annually as they transition from homelessness to stability.

The dedication ceremony honored the 18 year legacy of Cheryl Chewning, a beloved staff member who passed away in May 2025. As the first voice families often heard when calling in crisis, Cheryl made every person feel valued and built meaningful relationships with guests and volunteers alike. The renaming of the Belleview site to “Cheryl’s House” ensures her compassionate spirit continues through Family Promise’s work.

“Cheryl embodied everything Family Promise stands for through her genuine warmth and compassion,” said Ted Taylor, CEO, Family Promise of Greater Phoenix. “She was often the first face families saw when they walked through our doors in their moment of crisis, and now, through this dedication, she still will be.”

The Cheryl Chewning Memorial Fund will provide critical support to two families annually as they work to rebuild their lives and achieve sustainable independence. This dedicated funding continues the personalized care that was Cheryl’s hallmark during her time with Family Promise, ensuring her impact extends to future generations of families seeking stability.
