Family Promise envisions a nation in which every family has a home, a livelihood, and the chance to build a better future. Family Promise of Greater Phoenix rescues primarily first-time homeless families from the streets and provides emergency shelter and basic needs in a sixty-day program designed to assist their return to self-sufficiency. Their shelter includes a sanctuary for the family pet, the first such program in Arizona.

What We Did.

Family Promise of Greater Phoenix is headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona, but has been expanding their services to reach the entire Valley over several years and wanted to grow its influence across the Valley, so 10 to 1 Public Relations worked to generate media features in all areas of the Valley. The results of the public relations campaign generated features in hyperlocal outlets in various communities from the East Valley to the West, as well as with five major television news stations. For any interviews with untrained spokespeople, 10 to 1 PR would spend time with them ahead of the interview to ensure they were comfortable with their talking points and messaging.

10 to 1 PR also targeted story angles to generate awareness for the nonprofit’s fundraising and donation efforts, resulting in stories to support key fundraising initiatives as well as donation campaigns. In one instance, 10 to 1 PR leveraged a successful Nextdoor post that generated unexpected donations for the nonprofit into a media opportunity that resulted in even more donations of supplies for families experiencing homelessness. 

In all of 10 to 1 PR’s efforts, we centered the issue of family homelessness to set Family Promise’s mission apart from other organizations that serve people experiencing homelessness. Media and the public responded well to this effort and have continued to be very supportive of the organization.
