Greater Phoenix Regional Smart Consortium Hosted AI Symposium for Local Leaders
• First statewide symposium uniting government and industry AI stakeholders
• Featured State AI Committee updates and municipal innovation presentations
• Launched groundwork for Arizona AI Consortium pilot program
PHOENIX, Ariz. – (March 25, 2026) The Connective, Greater Phoenix’s regional smart city consortium, hosted the Arizona Public Sector AI Symposium, bringing together state leaders, municipal partners, industry experts, and members of the State AI Committee for a comprehensive exploration of artificial intelligence’s role in Arizona government operations. This first-of-its-kind event brought AZ state and local governments together to align governance and strategy while unifying AI approaches, developing workforce skills, fostering public sector AI economic growth, and strengthening Arizona’s statewide AI ecosystem.
“Arizona is reinforcing its position as a leader in AI-friendly governance through strategic planning sessions that align policy frameworks across government levels,” said Chris Lucero, Design and Technology Director, The Connective. “We’re creating a blueprint that will help our cities deliver faster, smarter services while ensuring no community gets left behind in the AI revolution.”
“This symposium represents what The Connective was built for as we brought together communities in Greater Phoenix and beyond to tackle shared challenges through collaboration,” said Dean Duncan, Managing Director, The Connective. “By bringing together cities, counties, and state agencies to share knowledge and resources, we’re advancing the collaborative partnerships that drive real solutions for residents in our region.”
Local government leaders gained direct access to statewide policy updates and learned from municipal innovation strategies already underway in Arizona. The symposium focused on aligning governance frameworks, developing AI workforce strategies, and identifying economic development opportunities. State and local officials examined current initiatives, shared implementation experiences, and discussed best practices to create unified AI approaches.
“The AI Symposium brought together state and local governments with private industry partners, creating the kind of highly collaborative environment that drives real innovation,” said Abby Schultz, IT Applications Manager for the City of Avondale. “It was refreshing to see everyone collaborating and having real conversations about how we can use AI to help our communities.”
City officials connected with AI developers to form Arizona’s first government AI consortium, positioning the state as a leader in public sector AI innovation while fostering local AI development and attracting AI firms to the state.
“AI adoption in the public sector is not about chasing the newest trend. It is about making smart, responsible decisions that build trust and deliver real results for our communities,” said Jennifer Teague, Account Executive at MSS Business Transformation Advisory. “The Symposium showed that Arizona leaders are approaching this work thoughtfully and collaboratively.”
This year’s AI Symposium took place on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at the Tempe Center for the Arts. To learn more about upcoming events from The Connective, click here.
